I didn’t blog last week because I was dealing with a death in my family. My dear great uncle passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s. It was a terrible reminder of how an incurable illness can overcome an otherwise healthy person. Though the physical symptoms of Cancer and Alzheimer’s differ, the effect on family and quality of life are similar in many ways. Hospital stays, many and varied medications, side effects, and the sad decline in health are all the same.
And of course, these are just two of many incurable diseases people are facing daily. Research and advancement in treatment are incredibly important and I am so grateful to charities like Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer for the money they raise for cancer research.
My uncle was a wonderful supporter of many charities – more than 10 – that he regularly donated to and supported for many years. He regularly gave back to those less fortunate than himself, and to causes he believed in and I find that to be very admirable. I am not asking for your money, but I am asking you to consider donating to or supporting a cause through volunteer work that you believe in. The world needs more people like my uncle. I will try to be one of those people, and I hope you will too.Tags: alzheimer, Blog, boston bakes for breast cancer, cancer research, charities, health, incurable diseases, incurable illness, quality of life, volunteer work
