Dutch oven from dutchovenmania.com
Today’s gadget is one that many of you may already own. A staple piece among cookware, the Dutch oven is a reliable and very versatile tool. The Dutch oven is perfect for cooking stews, soups and chili on cold winter nights.
Dutch ovens have been in use for hundreds of years all around the world. Most countries have their own version of this heavy-duty cooking vessel that are also known as casserole dishes. The French cocotte, the Japanese tetsunabe, and the South African Potjie are all very similar designs.
The thick walls of the Dutch oven are usually made of cast-iron which …
mandoline from zappos.com
Working in a restaurant over the past several months has taught me a lot about chef-worthy kitchen tools. One of the most used kitchen gadget is the mandoline. Not the musical instrument kind of mandolin, but the fruit and vegetable slicing mandoline.
When it comes to shredding carrots for salads, or potatoes for hash browns, the mandoline is the only tool to use. The different settings allow you to make wider or thinner sized slices, or longer or shorter slices, so that you’ll have the perfectly sized shred for anything you’re making.
And the OXO Hand-Held Mandoline Slicer takes shredding to …
eggplant panini from acefitness.org
The sandwich has been a luncheon trademark for as long as I can remember. Satisfying and nutritious, there are endless options waiting to be stuffed between a couple slices of bread for a mid-day meal. From club sandwiches to tea sandwiches to wraps and flat-breads; one of my most beloved has to be the Panini.
Crispy on the outside with a golden crust and a warm, melty inside makes the panini irresistible.
And now you no longer have to eat-out to get your panini fix. The Giada Gourmet Panini Maker from Target is what you’ve been waiting for. It’s …
grilled meat from myrecipes.com
For this years July 4th cookout my Dad decided to make a pork roast. After he marinated the meat for a day, he cooked the pork shoulder for nine long hours on the grill over hickory-smoked wood chips until it reached peak tenderness. Personally, being a vegetarian, pork isn’t my cup of tea. But the process to prepare this dinner was pretty interesting, none the less.
Something that was as time consuming to prepare as that piece of pork should have incredible flavor. Over-cooking it would be a disaster and a huge waste of time.
And so, the importance …
black pepper from newsduniyaonline.com
Some people are shy when it comes to adding a peppery punch to their tuna salad. But personally, I like to spice things up in the kitchen.
Last week, as I was whipping up an omelette, I noticed the sub-par abilities of my pepper mill. I cranked and cranked, but the pepper only scantily dusted my breakfast.
And so, my hunt for the perfect mill began.
As I was browsing Williams-Sonoma online, I came across the Trudeau Graviti Electric Salt and Pepper Mills. Forget the old, out-dated mill that requires you to grind by hand. The Trudeau mills do all the …
grilled corn on the cob from myrecipes.com
When I think about summer cookouts I think pasta salad and corn on the cob. As a kid it was often my job to shuck the corn before tossing it into the steamer. Smothering on the butter and sprinkling on the salt made for the most delicious combination of sweet and savory. I hardly minded all the corn-hair that got stuck in my teeth.
Today, I tend to skip the butter and salt and just enjoy the au-natural sweetness of the corn itself. Maybe it’s the novelty of eating something with my hands that makes …
grilled pizza from chow.com
Summertime means bbq‘s in the back yard every night. So finding new things to throw on the grill is a must, because no matter how tasty the burgers and dogs might be you have to add some variety to the mix.
There are so many things you can grill up for dinner from bbq chicken to swordfish steaks to kabobs of peppers and eggplant. I’ve even heard of grilled watermelon as a substitute for a burger. But one of my favorite things to cook on the grill has to be pizza.
Grilled pizza takes practice. You can’t just do …
Is there any such thing as too much garlic? Some would say yes, and I used to be the first to agree. But over the past couple of years I stopped caring about my fresh breath and started indulging in the delicious flavor whenever possible.
garlic from dothegreenthing.com
When I think of my favorite fully garlic-loaded food my mother’s caesar salad is the first thing that comes to mind. Her homemade dressing isn’t creamy like the typical caesar dressing you’re probably used to. Instead, it’s olive oil based with lots of lemon juice and A LOT of fresh garlic. She even tosses …
