Fruity Tools

Two foods that I can never get enough of are fruits and veggies. Sweet and juicy, and without all the guilt that comes along with eating pizza and ice cream. But in our busy lives it’s often hard to squeeze in an apple a day when our stomachs are screaming for something more hearty, like a sub or sandwich.
Thankfully, these gadgets from Williams Sonoma will help you get your daily fix of nutrition without any hassle.

Rice-Aroma

maple tree from buzzle.com
I recently spent some time visiting friends in upper New York State. It was the perfect autumn get-away. The air was crisp and clear and the foliage was unbelievably beautiful. Maple trees ranged from bright yellow to deep reds and burnt orange.
A few of my friends attend St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. Although they live in a dorm they managed to make the space into a cozy, comfortable home. So comfortable, in fact, that the only time they spend away from their humble abode is to go to class, grab a scarce meal from the …

Lemon Lovin’

lemonade from cooksillustrated.com
Pink or yellow, sweet or sour, fresh or frozen: it doesn’t matter how you spin it, lemonade and summertime go hand-in-hand. I remember sitting at the end of my driveway selling lemonade from a cooler, arguing with my sister about who gets to collect the cash. I was about seven years old and making anything over $10.00 a day was a fortune.

Pork Perfection

grilled meat from myrecipes.com
For this years July 4th cookout my Dad decided to make a pork roast. After he marinated the meat for a day, he cooked the pork shoulder for nine long hours on the grill over hickory-smoked wood chips until it reached peak tenderness. Personally, being a vegetarian, pork isn’t my cup of tea. But the process to prepare this dinner was pretty interesting, none the less.
Something that was as time consuming to prepare as that piece of pork should have incredible flavor. Over-cooking it would be a disaster and a huge waste of time.
And so, the importance …

Electric Pepper

black pepper from newsduniyaonline.com
Some people are shy when it comes to adding a peppery punch to their tuna salad. But personally, I like to spice things up in the kitchen.
Last week, as I was whipping up an omelette, I noticed the sub-par abilities of my pepper mill. I cranked and cranked, but the pepper only scantily dusted my breakfast.
And so, my hunt for the perfect mill began.
As I was browsing Williams-Sonoma online, I came across the Trudeau Graviti Electric Salt and Pepper Mills.¬†Forget the old, out-dated mill that requires you to grind by hand. The Trudeau mills do all the …

King of the Corn

grilled corn on the cob from myrecipes.com
When I think about summer cookouts I think pasta salad and corn on the cob. As a kid it was often my job to shuck the corn before tossing it into the steamer. Smothering on the butter and sprinkling on the salt made for the most delicious combination of sweet and savory. I hardly minded all the corn-hair that got stuck in my teeth.
Today, I tend to skip the butter and salt and just enjoy the au-natural sweetness of the corn itself. Maybe it’s the novelty of eating something with my hands that makes …

Zap That

from scientificamerican.com
Today’s gadget is a little outside the kitchen cabinet, but stick with me and you might be happily surprised by this intriguing idea.
We’ve all been victims of a fruit fly infestation. Those pesky little buggers appear out of no where and are a pain in the apple to get rid of.
So many times I’ve boughten a bunch of bananas, and, especially in the humid summer air, they’ve gone brown before I’ve had time to enjoy them. And the minute your fruit surpasses prime ripeness the fruit flies begin to descend.
But thanks to the SE¬†battery operated tennis racket bug zapper, …

More Pancakes, Please!

chocolate chip pancakes from recipegirl.com
Chocolate chip pancakes were always my breakfast of choice when I was a kid. The thought of light and fluffy pancakes with sweet chocolate and warm syrup makes my mouth water. Any flavor pancakes, from banana to blueberry to lemon-ricotta, are a delicious breakfast treat.
But when I eventually roll out of bed on Saturday morning, pancakes often seem like a hassle to prepare. So instead of letting the laziness take over and reaching for the cereal box, this little gadget will solve any pancake problems you might have.

Cutest Cookie Sandwiches

This week at Boston Bakes everyone is putting their best dessert forward. From cakes, cookies, pies and more, I decided to join the trend and talk about a gadget that will make some real tasty desserts, and it will take only minutes!
from cuisipro.com
Summer is well on it’s way and as I’m daydreaming of long days at the beach I can’t help but think about the ice cream truck that will soon be ringing it’s bell for all the kids to hear. Ice cream cookie sandwiches were always one of my favorite treats from the ice cream truck. The Cuisipro Mini …
