Boston Bakes Leadership
George Eliot, the female novelist once said, “The important work of moving the world forward does not wait to be done by perfect men.”
Boston Bakes, Founders Story
For Carol Brownman Sneider, no work is more important than the work being done in the area of breast cancer research and care. That’s why she’s so passionate about accelerating the progress being made in the race for a cure.
At aged sixteen, young Carol suffered the loss of her mother to breast cancer. Back in the 70’s, the odds of a women getting breast cancer were one in twenty. Nobody spoke openly about breast cancer. It was whispered about, and known as the dreaded “C” word. As a result, Carol’s mother suffered in silence throughout her struggle. The family kept her mother’s battle a secret until near the event of her passing, because that is how Carol’s mother wanted it.
As Carol grew up she believed that by adulthood, medical science would have found a cure for breast cancer and that the pain and torment her family had suffered would never again need to be experienced by anyone. By the time she herself was a mother, breast cancer would certainly be eradicated from this world.
To Carol’s surprise, this was not the case. And with a very strong family history of breast cancer, Carol became worried. She now had a daughter of her own, and wanted to be certain that she would be able to watch her daughter grow to adulthood. Something her mother had not been able to do.
It was then that Carol decided to act. She realized that the important work of moving the world forward on the issue of breast cancer could wait no longer. She didn’t know how, but she would make a difference.
And that’s how Boston Bakes For Breast Cancer began.
Today, Carol dedicates her time to raising the much needed funds for breast cancer research with the hopes that no child will ever lose a mother, no mother a child, no husband a wife and no friend a friend to breast cancer.
Isn’t it time for you to help move the world forward, too?
